Still, the real goal of “Naked & Afraid” (a six-episode order, with different couples and venues) is as bare as its protagonists, intended to tap into our imagination about being shipwrecked, and provide Discovery a titillating concept to launch after daredevil Nik Wallenda completes (or doesn’t) his live high-wire walk across the Grand Canyon.
Twelve Naked and Afraid All-Stars take on punishing locations together. The survivalists try to last up to 60 days with no food, water, clothes or shelter. Does teaming with other elite survivalists help their chances or make the challenge more difficult?
Naked and Afraid (2015) Season 4 Episode 15: Fear the Unknown Annie is an athletic mother from Illinois. Trent is a man afraid of the dark due to an encounter with Bigfoot when he was younger. The duo are thrown in the Belize jungles of South America where it doesn’t take long for things to go rather bonkers.Of all the episodes that I’ve seen I must admit that this here was probably my least favorite. The two survivalists were rather strange to say the least and while this added some entertainment early on it eventually ran rather thin and especially when you consider that way too much time was spent with Trent and his fear of the dark. There’s a lot of scenes with him in his camp where he’s terrified of something outside. There are cameras outside the camp but we never saw any footage of what was coming into the camp. Perhaps it just wasn’t caught on camera but at the same time it just didn’t ring true. Too much time was spent on this and not on the actual environment.Episode: B
I dunno man. I’ve liked N&A in other iterations. The Last One Standing. Some of the XLs. There can be something to learn. The survivalists start out pasty and chubby and end up carved out of wood. Here, they’re filthy by day two. They’re in an area devastated by climate change driven drought, struggling in the way millions of people have to struggle for real, and it’s a game. True to the nature of apocalyptic survival, I suppose, it’s not a very fun one to watch. People dragging around rusted corrugated metal and drinking dirty puddle water. No thanks. And I swear to god the show superimposed a lion in one scene to make it look closer than it was. Gonna pass on this one; Naked & Afraid has jumped the shark.
Naked and Afraid have a new spin off that simulates the apocalypse. Stupid you say? Well, it gets even dumber. Why would they all be naked? Were all the survivors in the shower when it hit? Are they survivors from a nudists camp? Nope they strip them and drop them off, like always. The premise just doesn’t work. This show has always just been watching naked people nearly starve to death. If you have seen one, you have seen them all.
